On the occasion of Human Rights Day, we seize this opportunity to call on all State Parties to respect our fundamental rights in these negotiations.

The climate crisis threatens our very survival, particularly forest-dependent, ice-dependent peoples, peoples in voluntary isolation, and the indigenous peoples of small island states and local communities.

Although we are the most affected by climate change effects our voices, our propositions, on the various negotiating texts are currently being ignored because not only are we kept outside the room but no one is listening to the cries and suffering of our peoples.

The IIPFCC affirms our global unity and solidarity to realize the enjoyment of our collective rights and the recognition of our vision, indigenous knowledge and our contributions in solving the climate change crisis.

Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Totally Excluded

INDIGENOUS PEOPLES from around the world condemn the texts proposed by the Danish Government on the basis that they totally exclude indigenous peoples’ rights on all key issues.

The International Indigenous Peoples Forum on Climate Change (IIPFCC) are made up of indigenous organizations from all regions of the world and are present here in Copenhagen. Indigenous Peoples are supposed to be at the centre of all climate change debates. This is because they have lived with and protected nature for generations and are now the worst affected by climate change effects like floods, typhoons, drought, violent thunderstorms etc. They have least contributed to this global disaster. The full and effective participation of indigenous peoples, local communities and vulnerable groups is therefore the key to achieve a just and equitable outcome of the climate negotiations.

We reiterate the States’ and whole UN system’s obligations to uphold regional and international human rights commitments and standards, especially the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

Climate Change Declaration

Klik hier

Circumpolar Inuit Launch Declaration on Arctic Sovereignty

Klik hier

UNESCO Biosphere bulldozed by Brazilian Ranchers

A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve inhabited by an uncontacted tribe is being bulldozed by Brazilian cattle ranchers at a devastating rate.

A government representative and two relatives of the tribe have tried to enter the region, but personnel from the ranchers’ company, Yaguarete Pora S.A, barred them.

The reserve, in the Chaco region in Paraguay, is home to the only uncontacted tribe in South America outside of the Amazon, the Ayoreo-Totobiegosode.

The reserve is being destroyed despite UNESCO’s objective to protect the Ayoreo-Totobiegosode, including ‘the recovery, legalization and return of the land to these native people. . .
